Museum Manager Sanra Rux credits thee elements for the success of the Museum in 2009: compelling exhibits and programs -- the new Sampler exhibit and the ongoing Portsmouth Peace Treaty installations; the Society's new website and other electronic communications (especially these e-newsletters); and a run of weather in June that drove Portsmouth visitors to indoor diversions. This impressive record was accomplished without increase in staffing, thanks to the loyal and knowledgeable paid guides and the continued support of volunteers including the Granite State Ambassadors at the DPC.

All of the cost- and energy-intensive efforts we have invested over the past two years were made with a close eye on the balance sheet allowing the Society to finish 2009 in the black.

"Thank you to everyone who helped the PHS achieve the increase in visitors, who helped assemble and sponsor our compelling exhiibts, 'Birds, Beaties and Boats,' 'Changing Portsmouth,' 'Summering in Rye,' Stitches in Time,' and 'An Uncommon Commitment to Peace,'" said Exhibits Committee Chairman and Society VP Richard Candee. "Special thanks to the hard-working members of the Development and Fund-raising committees, particularly Ruth Gray, our Trustee who organized the gala events that made such a significant contribution to our finances."
